ABOUT THE BARNYARD
Where Carmel Comes Together
Built in Carmel in 1976, the Barnyard Shopping Village is a landmark on the Monterey Peninsula featuring more than 50 merchants and small businesses, ranging from couture fashion shops and International restaurants to professional services and art galleries. The Barnyard hosts annual events within its brick lined courtyards and rear event field and is a popular shopping destination for residents and tourists alike.
In January of 2004, the Barnyard Shopping Village was purchased and in the two years that followed the Barnyard underwent a revitalization that included new roofs with copper gutters, mosaic paths and creation of an open-air patio and outdoor fireplace. The improvements have continued since then, with a new color scheme introduced in 2022, and the cascading levels and impeccably landscaped courtyards were refreshed and remain a wonderful escape from the crowds, leaving visitors relaxed and eager to return.

The Barnyard Shopping Village welcomes shoppers and diners Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm | Sunday 11am-5pm; Restaurant hours vary
Take Hwy 1 South past Ocean Avenue and turn left onto Carmel Valley Rd. Turn right on Carmel Rancho Blvd. Turn right again at Carmel Rancho Land or Clocktower Place and drive one block to the Barnyard parking areas. Parking is always abundant and FREE! ~ Just look for the windmill ~
Shopping
The Barnyard Shopping Village features a variety of boutique shops and family owned businesses specializing in art and gift collections, couture clothing, jewelry designs, men’s and women’s apparel, comfort, dress and casual shoes, and an array of salon, wellness and professional services.
Dining
Eight locally owned restaurants offer a variety of casual and fine dining, featuring authentic local, regional and international cuisine options, including grilled fresh catch, fondue and healthy salads. Most menus include children’s options, and food is available for any meal of the day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcomed on restaurant outdoor patios to join their owners during meals. Call the individual restaurants for full details.
Event & Meeting Space
Our terraced garden setting and several of our restaurants who have large group or banquet areas, and a rear event field are available for both fee based and non-profit events. Contact our General Manager at (831) 624-8886 for details on outdoor space, or the individual businesses for indoor space. When not hosting a special event, our event field offers a 4-hole disc golf practice course and a picnic table.

THE BARNYARD GARDENS
“Picture a river of color…pouring over boulder-edged slopes, coursing down three multiangled levels. Hills of poppies, mounds of petunias, ramparts of snap-dragons and cosmos vibrate in the sun.”
These are the Barnyard gardens, planted on slightly less than an acre. Seven rustic barns provide the backdrop for flaming trumpet vine, crimson bougainvillea, antique roses, Peruvian lilies, shasta daisies, echinecea and an array of seasonal annuals. Wide brick pathways wind through the garden, wooden benches provide the shopper with a welcome rest.
Outdoor Dining
Come check out our open-air seating. We have made accommodations for several of our restaurants to use our outdoor gardens and breezeways for service areas. Evening meals feature attractive lighting and in many cases patio heaters to keep your mealtime cozy and warm. Restaurant staff services the tables in the central courtyard.
